I'm really sorry for your loss. I know this sounds mean, but if the cat is an outside cat, it is always at a risk. I decided unless it is a barn cat, my cats are always inside now where they can't get run over, lost or killed by a dog (or in our area, a hungry coyote). Again, not trying to be insensitive, just telling it like it is.
