Frequently Asked Questions
1) What happened to the old board?
New as of 06/18/2004:
This new message board by Brian Steele (Talkshop) is designed to replace the
WWWBoard we have been using which was designed
by Matt Wright. I had an older version which was not Y2K compliant (remember
Y2K?). I wanted to find something that had a
similar look and feel and showed all the message threads like WWWBoard. Also I
wanted to cut down on flaming, a lot of which
was happening by trolls popping into the board just to cause mischief.
They still can but they will be recognized as
unregistered and cannot assume someone else's nickname if it has been
registered.
2) Can you tell who I am?
Identity:
There is some level of identity because the poster's "alias nodename" is listed
on the post next to the nickname. If someone causes
enough trouble, I can either ban them or have something like "Troll Alert"
displayed instead of their message. Not to mention your
ISP (Internet Service Provider)
could probably ID you if pressed (tell someone's lawyer
where to send the summons). So be nice to your
fellow horse lover!
3) Is this board moderated?
Moderation:
No, this board is capable of having moderated posts. I do not have it
turned on, since some of the other features should
hopefully prevent problem posts. But it is an option.
4) Do I have to register?
Registration:
If you register your nickname, only you will be able to use it, since it is
password protected. Any registered users will
show their nicknames in red, while non-registered users nicknames will show in
black. This forum can also be set up to only
allow registered users, which again is an available option.
5) Can I search for a specific topic?
Search Feature:
I will eventually have a search feature for the posts. You will be able to
search the messages and now I will be able to
leave about 200 Megs of messages on file. So there should be over time
about a years worth of messages to dig through. I did
not have the web space until recently to provide this feature.
6) How come some of my words were changed when I posted a message?
Word Filtering:
This message board allows for word filtering of bad words, so that bad words are
replaced with nicer words. I will have to
continue to update the list as needed.
7) What are the features of the menu bar?
Menu Bar:
New Message - posts a new message
View Latest Messages - a list will be generated showing the latest posts even if
it was posted way down the list to an older post
View Threads - will summarize the major thread subjects in a list
Register - register your nickname that is password protected (no one else can
use it)
